Still, Bester would be considered a threat. Lyta sending a password — I don’t think so. I also don’t think
they would be getting along friendlier (end of Passing through Gethsemane) if Susan had tried to
exterminate her :)

Pat —
How wonderful of you to take the time to talk with us online! An actor’s life is never “unbusy,” so it’s
especially nice of you.

Congrats to you on your work with Lyta — you’ve really breathed life into her.

Dear Ms. Tallman

In the event you take the time to read these inquires… Some time back, when season 4 had just received
confirmation it would be renewed, you indicated in here that you were supposed to be in the first episode of
the new season. Is that still true, and as production has progressed, have you received any indication from
JMS whether or not you will be in any other episodes? Just curious from someone who enjoys your work
(even if I cannot witness “stunt doubling”)….

I second the thank you’s! I thoroughly enjoyed your eps, and hope to see more of you (blush) – eh, well, you
know what I mean. On the show, of course. God fans are cheeky, aren’t they? ;o)
I always find it interesting to see how the actor will portray their imaginary mindscan/telepathic link, and
your look of intensity is one of my favorites. I’ve heard that you and Claudia did quite a bit of cutting up at
Fantasticon – truly sorry I missed that one.
Thanks again for your participation here online.

I hope you all will pardon me for stepping away from B5 momentarily.

Ms. Tallman,
I have a habit of making the people I go to the movies with actually sit through the credits. I do believe I
saw your name in the credits of “Kalifornia” This may be an odd question, but I have always wondered what
kind of an atmosphere there was on that set. And of course we fans are not supposed to see where the stunt
persons actually stand in I realize, but just where were you in the movie? Was it you that fell against the
piano for Michelle Forbes?

Ok. Back to lurking. (No comments Ivanova, I am trying to be good!)

<< I also don’t think they would be getting along friendlier (end of Passing through Gethsemane) if Susan
had tried to exterminate her :)>>

I disagree – two of the “purest” emotions I know of are hatred and fear. Assuming which I do that it was
Susan who took the potshot at Lyta in the security section. Which was the motivation? In addition to
returning fire in the darkened corridor Lyta would probably have sent out a telepathic probe. Perhaps
merely to help focus her aim on the assailant, perhaps so that she could identify the person or persons later.
Whichever the case when your life is in immediate danger wouldn’t you use every resource available to you.
Telepathy is not just a tool it is a weapon I suspect in that situation she would have used it as such. Again if
it were Susan who wearing Talia’s gloves fired the ppg she would know about the probe, and know that Lyta
most likely knew who her assailant was. Wouldn’t she also want to know the motive, or would she blindly
assume that it was a psi corps plant?

Was it merely the threat of exposure/ of being outed that scared Susan so much/drove her to desperation?
Or also the possibility that her acts (assuming I’m right) of attempted murder – in the case of Lyta, murder in
the death of one security officer, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent in the case of the other –
would be exposed. Not to mention such charges as treason for firing on her own people. She loved a
telepath, and that while her options with psi corps weren’t good she’d at least be likely to survive them.
Convictions for these charges would most probably have gotten her executed.

Assuming Lyta knew who who her assailant was, but lacked motivation, she was in the employ at least later
of Kosh. I can’t picture Kosh not knowing, she was his assistant and no stranger to telepathy. Lyta would
take a probe for granted, a routine matter of course. Therefore Kosh also knew. Why did he choose not to
act? In much of the world, traditional cultures at least he would have been responsible for the well being –
including security of his employees/vassals etc. It would be his responsibility to defend her, I also assume
that if Kosh wanted someone dead they died – unless – – –

What if the shots were fired out of fear and an instinct however misguided of self preservation. Thru Kosh I
suspect that Lyta would know this. At least the two of them would know where they stood with each other,
remember Londo and his choice of which wife to keep, his reasoning for doing so. The phenomena isn’t
unheard of now where soldiers, and Susan is whatever else a soldier, after hostilities have ended sometimes
become close friends with former enemies. Yes they tried to kill each other at one time out of fear, self
preservation, to save comrades – another possible motive in Susan’s case, and always squaring off for
someone elses political objectives.
Few if any want to be or enjoy combat situations, just a bunch of scared kids in uniform.

I don’t see the possibility of a relationship totally excluded on this basis. While men -traditionally the
soldiers in our world, become friends the war bride is a reasonably common phenomena. As more women
make it into combat – doesn’t the possibility of marriage between what were once the best of enemies also
exist?

As I commented in the Ivanova folder, I still think Susan would perceive of Bester as more of a threat than
Lyta. And I think Lyta and Ivanova have mutual respect for each other (both, in a sense, rogue teeps, etc.).
It will be fun to watch this relationship grow — no matter where it goes.

Thank you Barb!
Monte, I’ll be in up to 13 episodes this season. I anticipate 7.
MOD, I was Michelle Forbes stunt double in Kalifornia. We don’t call it standing in, since that’s another job
description. The atmosphere was tense and sever. The conditions were brutal and the story intense. Since
these are all talented actors, no one was goofing around. This was a rough one.
I personally hate that photo in the Com Center.! Alissa, There’s some photo choices in a home page
someone did one me called intergalactinet. If you can’t find it let me know. I hope in the next few weeks , a
better picture will show up!

<< I still think Susan would perceive of Bester as more of a threat than Lyta. And I think Lyta and Ivanova

Agree – Bester whatever else is a psi cop, he was willing to go against the corps once for his personal gain.
However in the comparativelty safe setting of the station where most have nothing to lose if captured by
Earth Alliance. Under the “present” circumstances I believe he will keep his word to aid them. What if
things go wrong or he is detected at home as a traitor. He’d sell Susan or anyone else out in a minute to save
his own skin. Perhaps that’s why he didn’t turn her in earlier prior to the rebellion breaking out. A potential
bargaining chip.

Lyta really is on the run and been of direct assistance, okay so part of it was outing Susan’s former lover. I
suspect hers as well. Her fate is now tied inextricably with theirs. Delenn trusts her and Susan trusts Delenn
leaving the potential there for building a relationship. I think she and Susan would make a wonderful couple
if they can get past that first little incident. Lyta would know what fear can do to people, she could help
Susan deal with that, and develop her abilities, An all important consideration : she’s not in the chain of
command.

Regarding Bester – never trust a psi cop. He’d probably get a promotion for bringing both of them in
together. He might even see it as a way of furthering his political ambitions now that he has a foot in both
camps.

I appreciate that someone with a schedule as busy as Ms. Tallman’s must be, takes the time to communicate
with us on the boards. While I realize that she would be sworn to secrecy regarding upcoming episodes, I
view the fact she comes here openly as a compliment to all of us.
I know of no other performer anywheres who will do that. I look forward to seeing her as Lyta in the
upcoming seasons, and beyond. I especially liked her in Passing thru Gethsemane confronting Londo and
his hench teep.

Since I know she reads this board the last question is both a digression and personal.
1. I am curious if when acting as the principal does she do her own stunt work?

2. If so will she continue to do so as her acting career developes?

3. I’m also curious to know, has she ever turned down a stunt job as too dangerous?

*********

4. Does anyone know if she is related to the actor who played Hamilton Burger on the old Perry Mason
series? I used to enjoy it and believe I detect a familly resemblence

If everyone would kindly permit me a digression (I almost felt sorry for the charactor – always losing cases
– kind of wanted to see him win one, maybe that’s why I ‘m curious. I also respected his courage and clearly
remember his last message to those viewers, and especially young persons who admired him)

Well thought out, Drifter. I agree with all your points, especially about the trust/fear stuff. Lyta and Susan
could really help each other.

BTW, I rewatched Divided Loyalties the other day. I, too, got the definite impression by Talia’s reaction to
Lyta’s name that they, indeed, had been “close at one time.”

I have just a few things to say before I sign off of AOL again.
I am very pleased to see the positive reaction that Ms. Tallman has received (and will continue to
receive, I’m sure!). She is a very talented lady who deserves the praise that she gets for her efforts. I am
also happy to see that she takes time out of her busy schedule for her fans, whether it’s here online, or at a
convention. I have read many times in The Zocalo how wonderfully pleasant and funny she is anywhere she
goes.
For those of you who count yourself as fans of hers, you owe it to yourself to see her backlog of films,
especially the remake of “Night of the Living Dead.” Wall to wall Pat! She was also quite good in
“Knightriders” and “Sweet Justice” (she was the only high point of that movie, actually).
The intergalactnet page is nice, as she stated. Another page that you may enjoy is in the Voltayre
Encyclopedia:
http://www.actlab.utexas.edu/~voltayre/lyta/lyta.html ( I hope that address is still correct.)

Lastly, I invite anyone and everyone to E-mail me with news, information, or questions concerning Ms.
Tallman (the most beautiful redhead on television). I would like to set up somekind of database or prepared
E-mail document with information on her for anyone who is interested. I am leaving AOL again, so I can
only be reached at the following address:

Thank you,
Happy thoughts and actions,

I’ll admit this, when Babylon 5 first aired, the only name on the cast list that I knew was Pat Tallman (I
remembered her as Barbara from the remake of Night Of The Living Dead). Having been sufficiently
impressed there, I decided to give “Patricia Tallman’s new show” a try (in spite of my misguided allegiance
to Star Trek at the time). I liked “The Gathering,” thinking the show had a lot of promise, being particularly
impressed with Jerry Doyle and Peter Jurasik, too.

But of course there was a big delay in getting the series rolling so I kind of forgot about B5 and missed most
of the first season, but I rediscovered the show in the second season and have been on board ever since.

Anyway, I guess I wanted to say that you, Pat Tallman, are to blame for me getting hooked on this show in
the first place, and it’s nice to have you back full time…

Lyta, Lyta, Lyta. I have always admired her. Her quick refelxes to each situation. I would have to say that
when Lyta becomes a “regular” actress on the show, everything will be different. Now that they have a
former Psy. Cop, they won’t have to worry TOO much about Bester snooping around other people’s mind.
With her Psy level being P-10+, I would say that she is Psy. Master! SORRY, IT’S PSI, NOT PSY.! Well
anyways, I’m glad that it’s Lyta who is the psi around not Talia Winters. BY THE WAY, THANX FOR

Subj: ST 30 Celebration in Alabama
Date: 9/7/96 8:27:00 PM

Posted on: America Online

Just came from a one-day show at the 30th anniversary celebration of Star Trek in
Huntsville Al.
It was obvious that this event is being run by Paramount, everything everywhere was
part of the “Franchise”, from cups to dealers and presentations… (it reminded me
of the store in Jurrasik Park). I was hoping to see some independent dealers with
some B5 stuff…but really didn’t expect it to happen.

The highlight of the day for me was the discussion lead by Dennis Madalone, the stunt
coordinator for TNG and DS9 (prob Voyager, too). When he came up on stage, he brought
up with him Pat Talman (slight mention of B5 as an aside during introduction).

I never knew that she has been working as a stunt artist with Dennis’ group on the
ST shows. Found the discussion on stunt work much more interesting, if only because
of her presence. Actually, it was much more interesting than I thought. Never really
thought before about the extent of stunts, and danger to the people involved before.

Pat stayed afterwards to sign autographs (I forget the charity she was taking donations
for … sorry (Pat?)). She mentioned that she now has a stunt double for when shes
working on B5, but hinted that she will return to stunt work eventually.

A lot of other ST people were there as well, with a big Stunt Show and Roddenberry Tribute
tonite, but this short event made the day.

homemade tapes since we can’t find any tapes to rent or perferably buy. So there has only been one
viewable episode with you in it Miss, Ms.? Tallman and that episode is Passing Through Gethesmane. A
big WOW to you and the others involved in the Babylon project. Now of course my opinions are tainted by
the beautiful star, awe struck fan complex but for what its worth. . . your fantastic! What you and the others
are doing with B5 is far deeper and more meaningful than “just another popular (or not so popular

Dear Ms. Tallman:

Given your generosity in responding to posts in here, and given that I am an attorney and therefore greedy
by nature <g>, I figured I would inquire as to yet another point… By now, everyone who reads the posts in
here is aware of your talents as a stunt double as well as an actress. I am simply curious how in your
professional training you came to do both. I recognize that I may be mistaken, but I was under the
impression that stunt doubling is highly specialized and, like acting itself, often involves years of training in
that discipline. Did you start off intending to be an actress, developed into a stunt double, and now returned
to your roots on B5? Or was this all some sort of haphazard amalgamation of good luck …. ?

Thanks as always for your attention to these (admittedly) intrusive inquires …. :)

have gone to a lot of Rangers games decked out in Islanders garb, or something… But seriously —

I seem to recall that some time back you said you were Gena Davis’s stunt double in The Long Kiss
Goodnight. Now that the trailer’s for the film are out, it looks like (a) there are a whole lot of stunt
sequences in that movie involving Ms. Davis’ character; and (b) she does them with at least two prominent
colors and lengths of hair — neither of which appear to be red/Lyta Alexander length. So, just how difficult
was it to do that movie as a stunt double (i.e. what was the most difficult stunt, if you can tell us this secret);
and how difficult is it to look like Gina Davis in the stunt sequences? Also, I note that you have said you
recently had a child. How late into a pregnancy are you allowed to do stunt doubling? (I bet only a lawyer
like me probably cares — you know, visions of arguing “negligent stunt doubling,” or unlawful use of
Samuel L. Jackson as a morning sickness punching bag, or something <vbg>)….

Hi, Pat! This is Chris Hoover from South Dakota–I e-mailed you a couple of times last month via the
Internet (to congratulate you on your promotion to the regular cast), before I discovered that this forum
existed on AOL.

Someone already mentioned the possibility of _Xena: Warrior Princess_ as a show where a guest role
would be a good showcase for your skill with a sword. Might I suggest another show with a great sense of
humor where swordplay figures heavily, but one that gets a little more serious at times: _Highlander: The
Series_. Sure, they use a lot of rock stars as guest Immortals (Roger Daltrey, Roland Gift, Joan Jett), but
what do you say, folks? Wouldn’t Pat make a terrific Immortal? (Of course, I can’t resist the image of
Duncan Macleod running into his old friend, Pat the Immortal, on the streets of Paris: D: “What are you
doing here?” P: “I have always been here”……)

Hi Pat,
It’s Winnie from Boston. I’m still trying to convince Charles to get that cruise going. I hear that Mira is
going to be a guest on a Dr. Who cruise out of Florida soon. That sounds like a lot of fun, too. I’m a
Whovian from way back.
Next month Steve Furst is coming out to the Bayside in Boston to do a convention appearance for
Creation. Got any questions you’d like me to ask him? He sounds like a terrific guy with a great sense of
humor. Speaking of which, I just saw Frank Gorshin, the Riddler, a few weeks ago at a local comedy club
and he was fabulous. Great to hear you’re going to become a cast member. I’m thrilled for you!! How’s
the baby? Bet he’s grown since you were here last.
You take care and keep that sword arm limber. You’ll need it to fend off all those adoring fans you’re
collecting.
Great Maker Bless,
Winnie

I’ve just started getting into the B5 book series and am currently reading Book #4 “Clark’s Law”. At one
point we find Lyta hiding out Down Below (waiting for Sheridan to get her off the station after busting
Talia) and was surprised to learn Lyta is deaf! I thought I was up on most of the nuances of the various
characters, but I sure missed this one! Am I dense, or is this a new aspect of Lyta slipped into the books but
not carried into the series? I had hoped the books wouldn’t mess with the story line, but now I’m not so
sure…Anyone?

Nancy

P.S. Thanks, Monte!

No and no. It was a creation of the author that should have been caught and removed, but somehow slipped
through the cracks. Series creator JMS has stated that Lyta was NOT deaf and had never been, and
somehow he missed that one line when reviewing the book for accuracy and agreement with the series.

I’d love to do a Xena OR Hercules!! Unfortunately that’s not up to me. You fans have a lot more power than

I’m glad to hear Lyta’s not deaf. Whew!
I hope that The Long Kiss Goodnight is a fun movie. Geena Davis worked her butt off, everyone did. Geena
had a couple of stunt doubles. I came in when the others got hurt. I didn’t.
And yes, there was some very narly stuff happening. Some of the biggest gags I’ve evr done. I’m not going
to spoil it foe you tho.
Hi Nancy! I’ll be in touch. Thanks for leaving a message.
I did my own stunt last week and this week Spice Williams is doubling me. I don’t know why the producers

Well, Pat, you asked us to let you know what we thought of “Walkabout,” and since I had the opportunity to
see it off the satellite this weekend, I’ll toss in my $0.02 early.

(* Warning: Minor Spoilers Ahead *)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this one gives Lyta more screen time than any of your previous
episodes, and gives her some intriguing character development (number one being, I think: Don’t Torque
Off Lyta–she’s got an edge to her, especially if you kill her favorite Vorlon). And your performance is very
engaging. Don’t take this the wrong way, because your work on previous B5 episodes has been quite good,
but “Walkabout” is a noticeable improvement; it’s at a different level than all the ones you’ve done before.
This feels like the one where you really started to _grab_ onto the role of Lyta and make it truly your own,
as we’ve seen happen with most of the rest of the cast at some point. You’re really starting to fit the role
very well (or the role is starting to fit you, whichever way that works). Nice, nice work, ma’am.

“Walkabout” probably isn’t as much of a WHAM episode as the last three will be, but it’s a nice showcase
for Lyta. Two particular highlights, both for Lyta and for you, that particularly caught my attention:

1) In the opening scene with Hobbs, we get a glimpse into just how deeply Lyta is affected by Kosh’s death,
and the fact that she wasn’t there to hold a piece of him. She’s trying hard to fight back her tears, and not
show the extent of her grief to a stranger; she’s not entirely successful. This played out perfectly, and you
conveyed it very well. Your voice _almost_ broke, but not quite–just the right balance.

2) When Lyta meets with the new “Kosh,” I get the feeling she is quite shocked by his treatment (in spite of
her own feelings of guilt). This guy is _much_ more ominous than the Kosh she had known (the cuddly,
happy-go-lucky, Caspar-the-Friendly-Ghost of Vorlons, apparently). Lyta usually seems rather strong, but
when Kosh II “grabs” her, she seems very small, frightened, and desperate. And again, your voice, more
than anything else, was what communicated that reaction (along with the later “fine, fine” to Sheridan).

3) Okay, three highlights: the moment of shock when Sheridan grabs Lyta’s hand on the White Star. All
with the eyes. Nice, subtle work.

Good Lord, woman, why aren’t you a regular on a TV series or something? :-)

Oh yeah, you are, now. And “Walkabout” shows why. Thanks for a terrific performance.
Best Wishes,

Chris Hoover

I thought your performance was excellent, one of your best since you’ve been on the show. The only thing
that I question is Sheridan’s reaction to Lyta’s uhhhhh tears(?) when she was holding off the Shadow ship. I
am a mom and any sign of blood sends me on a frantic search for the cause….Sheridan should have atleast
been concerned and instead he acted like it was an every day occurrence.

just my two cents worth…

Pat, you’re great… I’m really glad you’re back on the show as a regular now. I know this is rather late to
mention this, but I think I liked your shorter haircut better. Yet, on the other hand, your longer hair is a nice
compliment to where Lyta is now as a character. She’s not as edgy… she’s more sensitive, more
understanding. Now, the short hair would contradict your character rather than enhance it. (Geez… am I
stereotypically gay, or what?)

I heard from JMS that you’ll be in the main titles for Season Four. Congrats. Keep up the good work and I

I thoroughly enjoyed Walkabout – however good a stunt expert Pat is, she’s equally good as an actress. Her
interchanges with the new Vorlon ambassador, and staring down the first Shadow transport were priceless.
That kind of versitility I suspect will stand her well in the years ahead.
Pat – The longer hair is very becoming, wishing you long life and much happiness.
Friends – Much as I’ve enjoyed our at times spirited interchanges on this and other boards circumstances
dictate that I drift on along in my personal life – I’ll be leaving the boards for now, and giving up my screen

Hey I’m glad to see that we’ll get to see more of Lyta Alexander now. I think I was just as
surprised as Sheridan when I saw you pop back up. They made alot of improvements to B5
between the pilot and the series. However, I liked your character more than Talia and was
saddened to see that they had replaced you. Hmm, I don’t guess you ever decided to
mate with G’kar did you? Just kidding, didn’t think so. Maybe the powder he took will
give him telepathic capabilities eventually instead. I did like Walkabout. How exactly does
a telepath gain control of a Shadow vessel? It seems to me like you would have to project
yourself or your own mind into god knows what and try to take control of it. I did like your
performance though and look forward to seeing you in upcomming episodes.

WoW!!! What a great response! Thanks gang!
Reid, JMS won’t let me tell you how to gain telepathic control of a shadow vessel for fear you will try it at
home.
The blood is coming from Lyta’s eye from the pressure of the telepathic effort to control the ship. Sheridan
is a warrior and a little blood from someone doing thier job doesn’t phase him in the least. I didn’t hit my
head when I fell to the floor. Lyta was freaked by the “bad vibes” coming from the nightmares known as
Shadows.
BTW Gang, my brother saw The Long Kiss Goodnight, and liked the film, but I’m not credited at the end . I
am very bummed out by this slight. But there is nothing I can do. None the less, The action is hot. Enjoy.

because I was all dolled up! Anyway, he won’t forget me after 407 , believe me!!!!

A lot of TV and movie stars (especially movie stars) say things like this, and seriously BELIEVE it.
Mostly, because they have NO IDEA how much stunt work was done after the star left the set — during late
(or early) hours, several weeks later, on another set, and so on. The stars remember things like being on a
tall building and swinging on a rope, and figure they did a stunt. Then, maybe on a completely different
day, a stunt person dressed up like the star makes a really BIG swing on a rope, dropping several floors, and
whomps into a wall, then drops onto a pile of cardboard boxes. The film editor cuts these pieces of film
together so seamlessly, that you see the star begin the swing, the stunt person follow through, and the part
with the whomp is never shown. Then the star gets all gushy about what a great job he/she did, all by
him/herself.

Well, yes, some stars DO all their own stunts, or 95% of them. But keep in mind that not all those who
wrongfully claim they did are actually lying. They may be merely mistaken. I won’t presume to know
which of these various categories Geena Davis should be placed in, but don’t be so quick to judge her a liar.

Still, it’s a real shame that Pat doesn’t show up in the credits!

Geena Davis *did* do a lot of her own stunts. Her husband, Reny Harlan, was the director and I heard her
talk about working with him. I don’t know if Pat Tallman doubled for her at all, but Ms. Davis *wasn’t*
making things up.

A number of articles have addressed this stunt situation…but the trend seems to be to have the star do as
much stuntwork as possible and to keep their face in camera while doing it. THe upshot of one article
claimed that people are so aware of what can be done with process shots and CGI that the stars have to do
the stunt work to keep the public coming in to the theatres. KIind of makes Ms. Tallman’s and other stunt
people’s lives rather difficult.

Yep, that was definitely Pat Tallman as “Aunt Hazel” — again, uncredited. Generally, if you don’t have a
speaking part, you don’t get a line in the closing credits. And if you’re not a “major” character in the show
(not necessarily the series), you don’t get a credit in the opening.

Still, one can hope: Hey, Pat, is there any chance that Aunt Hazel was NOT a “throwback,” and might show
up again on Dark Skies as a Hive conspirator?

Hollywood is all smoke and mirrors and to truly believe that a star did 90% of her/his
own stunts would be naive.
No studio would back a movie in which a star was placed in danger(Afterall where is the profit
if that star dies during filming?), stars have huge egos and regularily ’embellish’ the truth in
interviews.
They like to be the center of attention at all times.
I certainly wouldn’t call Pat a liar, there were at least six stuntwomen on, ‘Long Kiss Goodnight’
and Geena Davis is just giving good interview.
Ro
P.S And it doesn’t look like a good film anyway.

>>No studio would back a movie in which a star was placed in danger(Afterall where is the profit

ordeals as of late. Also, when your husband is the director, there are plenty of ways to get around insurance
riders.

Plus, as Badinov said, it’s getting much harder to fool audiences with intercutting shots of stunt people
doing work with the actors pretending to do it. And many stunts are not dangerous if prepared for properly.
Plus thanks to Jackie Chan, the ante has been upped. He and his crew cannot be insured by *anyone* due to
their stunts (and insistance that all the actors do their own work!), yet Jackie’s now doing English language
films and just signed with the William Morris agency.

>>P.S And it doesn’t look like a good film anyway.<< Actually, it does, and I’ve only read good reviews of
it. And I’m not calling Pat Tallman a liar, but I wouldn’t say Geena Davis is either.

I will clarify what I can here,. Geena is a very hard working actor and deserves tremendous credit for all her
efforts, and being a great sport about what Renny wanted her to do. She withstood freezing weather in very
little clothing, and tried her best always to come thru no matter what the situation. She payed attention to
what the stunt coordinator had to say, putting her ego on the back burner. She’s a very hard working person
with a lot of heart.
Her first stunt double was hired as a martial arts style fighter to make Geena look like she could be lethal.
She tries, but graceful she ain’t, and you can’t fake those years of training. That double had difficulty doing
other kinds of stunts, so a guy did the high stuff in the earlier part of the film. They hired a skater for the ice
scenes and a skier for those scenes. When her double got hurt, they brought me in. I did all the end stuff,
Niagara Falls, fights , falls, and finale explosions in the car ect.All her doubles wore a full face prosthetic of
Geena. I worked for a month in Toronto. I have the pictures, bruises and scars to prove it.
I don’t know what kind of experience this person has , who is going on about Geena doing 95% of the
gags, but you are sorely mistaken. No matter what, the star has to be safe. The stunt coordinator would not let
anything happen to Geena. She also simply did not have the physical coordination to make all the stunts
look convincing, even if they would let her do them. To speak of her and Jackie Chan in the same breath as
action actors is a joke. Geena can act. She’s incredibly talented and stunning to look at. No one I have ever
met works harder. A stunt woman she ain’t.
And, if , as a producer, director or stunt coordinator, the actor was going to do 95% of the work, would you
hire 3+ stunt doubles for the actor?

Geena was on the set while I worked , she had to come in for the xclose ups, and needed to know what we
did. She is also one of the producers on the movie and saw dailies eveyday. She knew exactly what was
going on.
I think it’s important for us as a movie viewing audience to be able to sit back and enjoy the film. We want
to watch Charlie Baltimore kick ass, not Geena Davis “act” or Pat Tallman”stunt”. Isn’t the point of films to
make magic? How can we do that if we are so aware of how the film was made? I really think these behind
the scenes shows have hurt our industry in an insidious way. It makes actors feel they must say anything in
order to gain credibility in the public’s eye. Who cares who did what. Did it work? Was it effective? Isn’t
that more the point? So let’s just step back on this whole thing and enjoy the film.

Excellent comments, Pat — thanks for taking the time to post them. I for one enjoyed the movie very much,
and the end result that yourself and the other stunt doubles, cast and crew were all striving for was
achieved…it all looked seamless, as if it really was Geena kicking ass up there on screen.

It is unfortunate, however, for you (and, I presume, the other Geena stunt doubles) to be kept off the credits
for the film, just to add to the appearance that Geena did all her own stunts. That, to my mind, is
unconscionable…You work on a project, you should get credit. Hope your pay and the finished product take
some of the sting out of that for you.

That’s wild news about the Geena face prosthetics…must have been even harder than normal doing crazy
action scenes under all that latex.

>>You work on a project, you should get credit. <<

This whole stunt thing reminds me of the turf wars in a profession I more familiar with than moviemaking
….CIA claims to do intel better, NSA claims to do better intel and doesn’t need CIA, NRO claims to do
better intel but can’t tell you about it, the Armed Forces claim to do better intel than all the rest. blah blah
blah. Talk about willing suspension of disbelief. Good to know that people are the same in every industry.

IMHO, I think the stunts should be credited right with the *star* – since they all work together to bring the
character to life:

Example:

Character Played by
Joe Schmuckatelli John Doe (actor)
Jackrabbit Slim (stunts – climbing – aerial)
Kid Minnesota (stunts – diving)

Of course, I doubt that the SAG would ever go along with this, but it would help give credit where due.

BTW, Pat: have you or any other stunt people been interviewed recently to counter these claims by the
actors? One thing that I haven’t noticed in the media is an article that depicts the stuntperson’s point of
view.

Dear Ms. Tallman (assuming you’re still frequenting AOL):

Having not been able to frequent these parts in a while, and now being in the mood to ask a talented
attractive female actress a question… I was wondering if you could describe how difficult it is (if at all) to
do acting scenes in front of “blue screen.” Whenever I see documentary production out-takes of those
shows like B5 that utilize this special effects device, it always seems odd the way the actors/actresses must
react to a screen with nothing on it… I suppose your acting training already has taught you how to imagine
a particular image so as to “act” with it in mind… But the addition of all the cameras/personnel and the high
level of choreography associated with blue screen still strikes me as making a very demanding situation for
the actor/actress…. In any event, thanks as always for your fine work… Monte

Personally, I think Lyta is a little scared of the new Vorlon–Kosh2 is obviously *not* Kosh1, and Kosh1 is
the Vorlon she first “fell in love” with. She’s still loyal to the Vorlons, but since Kosh2 told her specifically
not to interfere, she’s still a little rebellious. I wonder what Kosh2 did to her when she got back from

If Lyta is timid, it’s because she’s working on her own. She thinks something is up with Kosh. (“You’re
planning something you’re not telling me.”) Going out on the WhiteSTar with Susan and Delenn was
probably not in Kosh 2’s plans for her. Also, it would seem that when she was with Delenn and Kosh in the
garden, she was not acting of her own volition — she was carrying the Vorlon.
I get this little thought of Talia Winters “carrying” the mole personality inside her head. The difference
being that Lyta at least knows when Kosh 2 is there, even if she doesn’t always know what he’s thinking.
Anyway, was really cool to see all three women teaming up to try to save Sheridan. Thanks, Pat, for
bringing Lyta to life!!!

I just got back from England , and Boy! Do they love the show. They made me feel so honored and very

for the compliment, I’m working very hard to bring life to this woman, and sometimes my choices may not
be popular, but I believe that it will pay off in the end. The hard part can be working with a blue screen, as
Monte so perceptively asked. But luckily I’ve always read a lot of science fiction and fantasy so I’m used to
imagining fantastic things in my head as if they were happening for real. Thank you Lady T, Ro,and Del for

comments! ( Ro!).
Yes, Lyta is not herself right now. She gave up her life, her humanity! to work for the Vorlons. Now Kosh is
different, frightening her, brutalizing her. She has to figure this out or she won’t survive. At least she sneaks
off to help Ivanova and Delenn . There is backbone in her yet!
Keep watching and posting . I’ll be here.

I am very confused by this ‘carrying Kosh2′–if he/it needs to be carried, then why have an
encounter suit?
How could he/it be in Lyta AND in the encounter? Are there two Kosh2’s?
When he/it is in Lyta, does he/it control her? Does he/it use her to spy?

And even though Lyta had ‘free time’ away from Kosh2…was she really alone(in her body)
when she took off with Susan and Delenn for Za’ ha’ Dum?
I wonder about this because:
When Lyta fought the shadows before, her voice did NOT change and her eyes did NOT turn
black.
Also why couldn’t Lyta sense Sheridan?
(I think it’s because Kosh2 was in her and HE/IT did NOT wish to find Sheridan.)
Why were they going to crash and burn onto the planet?
(I think Kosh2 wanted them to die. Then there would be nothing to report back to B5.)
I don’t trust this Kosh2.(The first Kosh wasn’t so great either.)

<<Would it be going too far to surmise that Lyta is now in an abusive relationship with Kosh v2.0?>>

Okay, so I’m not her, but I think I can answer that one (grin). In order for an abusive relationship to work,
the abusee needs to think very “lowly” about herself/himself. IMHO, Lyta is *not* capable of remaining in
an abusive relationship–she thinks far too highly of herself, even though she may think far too highly of the
Vorlons (but that was mostly because of Kosh v1.0).

Not to worry….Lyta is okay.

Hi Pat,

I just wanted to add my complements to the growing pile. Excellent work! I always liked the guest
appearance episodes in season 3 (Lyta forcing her way into the Centauri telepath’s mind was a great scene),
and always knew you’d be added to the permanent cast. I wanted to know: is there a notable difference in

Correct. Though I always enjoy your insights, LadyT (and this one was perceptive as ever; see below), I
would have prefered, respectfully, to have heard Ms. Tallman’s answer before the general analysis; which is
why I phrased the question just so. Ah well, post on a bulletin board… (grin) Peace.

Anyway, Re: what you said…

>> In order for an abusive relationship to work, the abusee needs to think very “lowly” about

This is pretty much what I was driving at: Lyta did look up to the Vorlons, largely because of v1.0. When
he died, we could’ve taken bets on who took it harder; Lyta or John. In the wake of such emotional trauma,
the line between internal and external pain can blur. On top of that, her new boss is requiring her to dis the
people closest to her. How highly does Lyta think of herself now? The question was not, after all, “will
Lyta REMAIN in an abusive relationship?”, but, rather, “Is she CURRENTLY in one?” In other words, I’m
asking the actress whether or not my analysis is totally out to lunch.
Respectfully,
Rick Rather

Abuse is a Ninties term , and thank God we are hip to it. Was Vir being abused by Londo? In some ways,
yes. Londo is a cranky , unpleasant fellow. Vir gets a lot of grief. Kosh is extremely unpleasant.( My friend
Tom calls him Kosh Vader. Kinda fits the bill).Lyta gets the worst of it from him.But will she keep taking it
or make her own judgment call? Only time can tell, I can’t.
If this were now, and a friend was getting shoved around by their boss, we’d call it abuse and call a lawyer.
But, things are bigger than our reality out there in space and the lines get fuzzy. Lyta will have to make her
own desision about her future. Right now, I don’t think she has enough info to cut her ties . I think Kosh
would kill her first.Maybe she’s being abused, but a better analogy might be 007.
Ro, I can’t answer you ?’s about the nature of the exchange of Kosh because there is much I don’t know.I
think when we are moving around, Kosh is in his suit. I do “errands” for him without the suit , and then he is
in me. I do believe that when Kosh is not in her , he is not with her. There would have been seriois
repercussions if he knew about the rescue attempt, and her conversations with Delenn.Lyta is very strong,
she would sense something if he were around.
There is a huge difference between fighting the shadows, and trying to make contact with them, or staying
open to them.
Lyta didn’t sense Sheridan because he was dead.
There still is a lot of mystery about Za”ha’Dum. But the Vorlon had nothing to do with that. It was a shadow
base and shadow energy.
I hope that gives you some answers, and something to think about.!
Love,
Pat

When analysing ‘abusive’ relationships in B5, we do have to keep in mind what is going on. There is a
major war going on. Whatever Kosh2 and Co are up to I don’t think they are putting people though torture
for their personal pleasure. Look at the Matthew Broderic character in “Glory” some time. He’s pretty
rough on his troops while they are in training, but its because he’s seen the war and he knows what they are
up against. That’s not to say the Vorlon’s motives are pure, but I think we do have a very different situation
here than the typical abused wife/friend.

Subj: the “role” of Lyta
Date: 11/21/96 2:59:57 AM
From: Sheridan98
Posted on: America Online

this may be way off base … but, (gina prepares for a slam) in a lot of ways I see the way Lyta is “used”
“abused” “herded” “assigned” and generally ordered about as the role that a lot of the lesser functionaries
in the military fulfill. Not all of us “run the station” “fly a fighter”, are rangers, ambassadors, etc etc etc …
not even all of us work in CIC.

There are a lot of folks who work in the back doing the “grunt” work, shuffling the papers, running the
errands, covering for the boss when the General calls, taking the flack for not having the report ready that
the Col wants cause the Major is re-writing it for the 4th time.

Lyta – although a VERY smart and determined lady (how long did she sit at the edge of VOrlon space????)
– seems to be unfairly stuck in the “gopher” position. Actually I see this effect a lot, an aide or clerk or
yeoman or secretary gets to know the BOSS, the BOSS learns his/her capabilities, the A/C/Y/S gets to
EXPAND their role in the big scheme, success builds upon success until the two are a team….. then the
BOSS takes another position somewhere else and the relief treats the A/C/Y/S like a gopher without any
additional capabilities….

The big difference here is that in addition to being a total jerk, “Kosh Vader” (I really like that!!!!) has a
dark side that would cause me to open any drawer, filing cabinet or door in a DEFENSIVE POSITION. I
admire the way Lyta refuses to totally succumb to the domination of KV …. kinda like — “HEY I’m on
liberty, I can do what I want!!!!”

I kinda like ol KV–he’s proof positive that not all Vorlons are alike (chuckle).

Interesting perspective, Rick. I hadn’t thought of the Vorlons “prepping” the other races, much less Lyta.
However, that particular insight *does* put a new perspective on the Mimbari-Vorlon relationship. (BTW,

the tears of Lyta

she fits in…
nowhere,

she works for
virtue
attempts to contend
evil
with her psi,

they call when they need her
they call when darkness arrives
they call for a mind scan,

never thinking
perhaps she’d like to be friends
be asked out for a drink
to a party
for a walk in the gardens…
just once,

her tears
run down her face
sometimes even in her sleep,

once…a long time ago
she knew her purpose in life
knew where she was headed,
now…she feels at home…nowhere
her heart is empty
and her soul is hungry
she feels lost
so lost…

the tears fall freely
the sobs fill the room…
and no one hears her.

the remains of Classic Kosh can rescue Lyta from Kosh Vader? I don’t like the way the new Kosh treats

IMHO, B5 is one of the best shows in the history of television. Part of that is the important roles that the
minor characters play in advancing the story. Moreover, these characters are interesting and excellent actors
are playing them. The characters that I find most interesting are: Lyta, Talia, Londo, Vir, Lennier, Marcus,
Ivanova, and Garibaldi. All of these characters seem more tragic than heroic. (though with Ivanova it seems
close to even). The tragedy for Lyta is that the ‘contract’ she signed is not the one she is living now. The old
Kosh treated Lyta with respect. The new Kosh does not have any respect for Lyta. To it (is Kosh male or
female? or does that concept matter to them?), she is a disposable tool, no more or less than the computer
on which I type this message.

Thanks for your excellent presentation of the character.

Is playing Lyta particularly interesting because of the several transitions she has gone through? (Unlike
most television series, where the characters, particularly the minor characters, are terribly static.)

Since Lyta and Sheridan are the only 2 that we know of to survive with their basic selves/souls intact (not
counting Morden and Anna), I think they probably share a bond of knowing the other has experienced
similar things. This will make them strong allies in the war that is to come, methinks.

Of course, the romantic in me (you know, the one who wants J&D to ride off in the sunset together, happily
ever after) now is hoping that, after she breaks free from the Vorlons (as I’m convinced she will) Lyta and
SOMEBODY will fall in love over the next season and a half. Of course, I want every character in the

engaging. Don’t take this the wrong way, because your work on previous B5 episodes has been quite good,

This feels like the one where you really started to _grab_ onto the role of Lyta and make it truly your own,

I don’t know what it is and it really does not matter, but I love Lyta Alexander! There is a mystery about the
character & Pat Tallman has a firm grip on how to play her. I hope JMS & the lords of B-5 see fit to flesh
out this character more! They really have a strong actress here and as others on B-5 get nixed, Lyta is the
perfect character to step up to the plate. IMO. I may have to start a new (local) Pat Tallman fan club!

In the Patricia Tallman bio it says she was on “Guiding Light”. I have been watching for years and I can’t
remember her. (Then again, I just placed that goober Cartagia as Mindy’s quite insane husband just last
week, so I may need forgiveness…) Any way, I am curious as all get out as to the role she had. Any help
folks?

I am new to AOL (just today….thought I’d finally try those free hours.) but am rather old at the Internet and
I have never seen that particular answer revealed in Usenet, the B5 Pages or the B5 Chatroom.

Oh, yeah, check out my page at http://www.gower.net/bigcurt/index.html for my opinion of Patricia
Tallman. She is absolutely one of (if not THE) most beautiful women on TV today.

I agree with Barb, I think that your comment was sexist. Not intentional probably, but sexist none the less.
That’s like saying only women who aren’t as fortune to be as attractive as Pat should be stunt women. And
it’s also like saying that attractive women shouldn’t endanger their good looks by engaging in dangerous
activities, they should just walk around with make-up on and look attractive.

To see how ridiculous this sounds, try saying the same thing about a man.

Hi Pat,
Welcome back to Babylon 5. I watched the pilot film and really liked it oh those many years ago. I
wondered what happened to your character, even though you were brought back a few times in newer
episodes. I wasn’t happy with the telepath that replaced you. I believe it was talia.
Now I understand, you were off risking life and limb as a stuntwoman. I hope the pay is real good. Not that
I would throw myself off a four story building for more money, I happen to be an unlucky sort and the
sidewalk is extremely hard.
I really am glad you are back as a regular. keep up the good work and be careful. (oops, I don’t know if it
is bad luck to say that to a stunt woman or not,if so disregard that statement.)

I like watching Babylon 5 because of all the strong women. I had six sisters and I am never surprised by
anything a woman can do. But I think we should start a campaign to get you more
money on B5 so you don’t have to risk your life. But then you probably like doing that. Please let me know
if this is the case. I’m sure everyone of your fans would not want to see anything happen to you now that
you are back on B5. Looking forward to seeing you in future episodes
. So once again welcome back and “break a leg.”

Subj: Beauty vs Ability?

Very few jobs depend on beauty for success, with all due respect to some of the fashion models not even
their career. I’d rather see something modeled by a woman next door type so I know what it looks like on
real people.

My opinion is that none of the female charactors on the show are beautiful. Attractive yes, beautiful no.
They are a talented group and have the ability to act, do stunts or whatever their job calls for. This is what
they are selling to the producers. They are not tinsel creations or china dolls, they are real persons and are
cast in roles to be just that. It makes the show and situations somewhat more believable, and to me much
more enjoyable.

Beauty doesn’t last forever but talent will – because they have the latter I predict long and successful careers
for these ladies.

BTW – regardig sexist ideas – too much beauty can be a curse, the problem with it are people who see no
further and just don’t take you seriously beyond your looks.

Can nominate a few chauvanistic types – not necessarilly – here that I ‘d like to see trying to walk/work in
spike heels for a week, they’d get the idea soon enough.

Like any of the other “isms,” sexism is fairly well ingrained in our society — to the point where sometimes
women don’t even recognize a sexist comment. The one thing I’ve loved about B5 all along is how equal
the treatment of the men and women (human or otherwise) is. And how the women can and are heroes too,
alongside the men.

I’ve said this on another board, but it blows me away how well a man (jms) has written roles for women —
perhaps because he sees them all as important characters, not by gender.

Some folks really need to get out into the REAL world where fenders get dinged, fingers get mashed and
batteries go dead. The fantasy world of the Politically Correct is a wonderful idea and I wish it were so,
where no feelings were ever hurt, “where never is heard a discouraging word and the sky is not cloudy all

Ah! Perhaps you have put your finger on the main point here: that we all become more aware and respectful
of one another. Unfortunately, communication just by words alone leaves a lot to be interpreted and that is
the problem because we don’t all interpret things the same way due to our different life experiences. Perhaps
expressing our thoughts and feelings and getting feedback from others is the best way to do that in this kind
of forum. I for one would not advocate stifling anyone’s freedom of speech. After all that’s part of what
makes this country so unique.

This is a really dumb question, but I’ve been wondering…Does Pat look prettier now than in the original
movie? Is it her hair? I just remember that I didn’t really notice how pretty she was in the original movie,

been awhile since I’ve seen the movie. Has anyone else noticed a change in her look?

<< Does Pat look prettier now than in the original movie? … she has a softer look somehow. >>

Not a dumb question at all (although “pretty” is a largely subjective designation). Pat has definitely
changed for a softer look. Her hair is longer (shoulder length, now, vs. fairly closely-cropped in the original
pilot). Also, her makeup is considerably less “austere” than in the pilot episode. Partly, I’m sure, this is due
to personal choices Pat has made regarding her appearance (the longer hair, in particular). But I think it’s
also part of the characterization of Lyta Alexander. Lyta is no longer official PsyCorps, doesn’t wear the
uniform (and sometimes not even the gloves). Also, with her relationship with Kosh #2, she has gone from
a strong in-charge resident telepath to “desperately seeking Vorlons” to being an emotionally abused victim.
I think Lyta’s physical appearance has been adjusted to communicate these changes. It will be interesting to
see what Pat and B5 do with Lyta’s appearance, now that the character is in a position to take charge of her
own life once again.

actors who have to wear contact lenses for the show, especially those who have to wear them regularly. I’ve
personally tried three different versions of contact lenses, one hard and two soft, and I couldn’t tolerate any

simply reading it. In order to affect your system, you have to run a program. Be careful about what you
download with email- but don’t worry about the email itself.

Neither myself or my sisters are able to tolerate even the new soft lenses – wish sincerely though that I

necessary prior to any insertion attempt. (I practically need a forklift to pick up my glasses.)

Probably because fur make-up appliances are more difficult & time consuming to do, and require more
maintenance on the set, than the more common latex appliances (like the Drazi or the Minbari). On the
limited budget of a TV show, it’s just more trouble than it’s worth. A pity, because I would like to see it too.

I would like to say that I think that it’s great of an actor or actress to respond to questions that the
public has left on the super-info highway.
It speaks well of someone that takes time out of their very busy schedule to answer questions about their
work & such while seeing what the internet public has to say of their character (s?) that they protray on TV
or in the movies = it shows that those people care.

(Espcially since I don’t know of many actors for famous people that take time to zip through the internet &
answer questions that the public has left.)

I am sure that I speak for everyone when we say “Thanks, Pat! We know that you care.”

I agree. Although it would have presented a few problems. For example, “The Search for Spock” could
have simply taken us back to the planet featured in the cartoon “The Infinite Vulcan,” where a Spock clone
was readily available. Of course, there would have been SOME drawbacks, since that clone was 50 feet
tall. But Spock would do ANYTHING for his friends, right? Including finding a way to reduce the size of
his clone!

story line. Each time I have seen your character, I have wanted to see more! The scene with Kosh v.2.0
(Hour of The Wolf) was one of the most intense scenes of the series. You made me believe that Lyta was
not going to survive, and that Lyta was aware how close to death she potentialy was! Great stuff.
There were comments before as to Lyta being a P5, but I think she’s probably a P5+ at this point! It would
be great to see her kick a bit of “Psi Police-kiester!”

Nice work in Epiphanies! It’s an amazing thing — grown adults shouting “You go girl” at the TV set :) !!

I loved the Zach/Lyta scenes, but was also particularly moved by the Sheridan/Lyta scene near the end. We
found out an awful lot about Lyta in this ep — her alone-ness and loneliness, her independent/rebel streak,
etc. In the John scene, I could see contemplation, anger, hurt … all sorts of feelings an reactions in Lyta.

I don’t know how much you know about what’s going to happen, or about what happened to Lyta “pre-arc,”
but I was wondering about the kind of mental/emotional work you did prior to that scene.

also liked that scene with Zach, I wonder if they’ll get to know each other better, lucky guy =) Man I hade

In Star Trek terms, “canon” means real facts. I don’t know if it applies in B5. Star Trek books aren’t canon,
so I don’t know about B5 books.
ANYWAY, in the B5 book #4, it said that Lyta was deaf, and that she read people’s thoughts to
understand them. Is this canon?

Nope. The writer was taking great liberties with this character. JMS answered this question in the Ask JMS
folder a while back – Lyta’s not deaf. I like reading the B5 books, but I’ve found you can’t always count on
them for accuracy.

Well, friends, I had the experience of a lifetime tonight. I was standing in the Vulkon pre-reg line when this
con organizer walks over with someone. The organizer stopped and smiled at me and then walked by. I
wasn’t paying any attention to who she was with until I saw the red hair. I said (out loud !), “My God, that’s
Pat Tallman!!”

I walked over to where Pat was chatting with Joe Motes (Vulkon organizer) and a couple of other folks, and
several of us joined in an informal conversation for about 5-10 minutes. It was absolutely a treat!

TO PAT: Pat, thank you SO MUCH for coming to Cleveland!!!

Date: 3/15/97 3:29:23 AM
From: Sheridan98
Posted on: America Online

Posted for Brian Walz:
ATTENTION!

After several weeks of fighting that is best left to the reader’s
imagination, I have gotten my ISP to create a Church Of Joe mailing list
for me. After spending the past day or two getting it set up, I am now
ready to announce it to the world. (Or, rather, you fine people at first
to get the ball rolling and then the world in a few weeks…)

Now, you notice that it is called the Church Of Joe mailing list, but is
it just for that? No, it is for any and all sub-churches too. (Which at
this time is just the Shrine Of Garibaldi.) So, this is a place for those
who worship Joe and the G-mon too.

I have always wanted this to happen, but recent events have made me move
up my schedule. With all the potential problems that the Line Tales on AOL
might cause, we needed a place to take them, or risk losing them. So, I
created this mailing list.

For those of you who don’t know what a mailing list is, I will explain.
And for those who do, skip this section…

A mailing list is just like a message area on AOL except that it is
carried out in e-mail. You write messages and send them to the list,
and anyone who is subscribed gets a copy. When you reply to messages,
unless you change the reply-to address, everyone in the group gets a
copy. It will show up in your mailbox just like regular e-mail, except
that in the subject line you will see [COJ-List] to show you that it is
a message from/to the list.

Now the great thing about this is that, unlike the AOL message areas,
you can’t just stumble in by accident. Have have to join. Therefore Joe
can’t accidentally see something that might be considered a story idea, he
would have to deliberately come looking for it. (And we know he wouldn’t
do that.) So, the line tales can continue.

I hope to see a lot of you join. Here is how you do it… Send email to

majordomo@pacifier.com

with the following text in the body of the message…

subscribe coj-list

that is all there is to it. Don’t worry about the subject line, it gets
ignored. All that is important is the body text.

see the guest walking around the hotel, looking at the booths and talking to the folks.

Pat impressed me very much, and I enjoyed her talk very very much. (though I must admit, that I thought
she was an absolute scream when she was pretending to be Andreas, JMS and Peter
during that practical joke story. Even though I had heard the story on the first day of the convention, I still
nearly cried from laughing too hard when she told the story again. “vell… Vhy not?”)

Sorry, too many trips to “The Enchanted Tiki Room”.
Pat,

Wonderful work. The black eye bit when confronting the Shadows is stunning. You really “creep us out”.
You manage to “say” a great deal with your facial expression even with one of your tools hampered, bravo!
(I would say with both eyes tied behind your back, but I guess that would be G’kar’s gig 😉 ).

My wife and I are both recent fans of B5 and feel that making you a regular was the only sane choice
available. We have to hang out at my brother’s home to see it or borrow a tape later. We live in the woods,
no cable, no broadcast signal… However, I am assembling a C-band Satellite system. All I’ve gotta do is
create a mount for the antenna and aim it at Galaxy 4 between the redwoods, maples and douglas firs. Why
all the work? My wife and I have no use for broadcast TV. We have surround sound, Beta and VHS hifi
and Laserdisk. We can rent, buy or borrow any thing we want… except B5. B5 is our downfall. I will be
getting up a 6 am on Sundays to get the feed.

This is all your fault! Okay, JMS is brilliant, and my wife is also partial to Mira and Jason as well. Please
keep up the good work! Tell ’em to sell tapes or better yet widescreen laserdisks. I’ll buy ’em, even if it
means that I have to give up my bagel habit!!

Oh yeah, I love the way Lyta sticks it to Bester when he tries to scan her at that meeting. Kind of a
telepathic “up yours”, “shove it”, “get lost buster”… er Bester.

Thank you for your work. Our four year old son says “hi” to your three (?) year old!

There isn’t a lot of B5 merchandise out, period…but if you want Lyta stuff, the best you’ll get right now is
photos. If you can attend a con where Pat is a speaker, you can be sure there will be lots of Lyta pictures!

I saw Pat at Vulkon in Baltimore just over a week ago, and all the dealers had Lyta photos…Pat had also
brought her own exclusive photos – the profits from which go to support her charity, Penny Lane.
Hey, Pat! Any chance you will be offering your photos to the fans via mail order?

Just a word on the convention…Pat is a very animated and humorous speaker – she had us all in stiches! She
also spent over 5 hours signing auotgraphs, so not a single person was left out! Pat is a class act, and I hope
to see her make more con appearances soon! (Especially on the East Coast!)

…and as a fellow female martial artist, I would like to wish her the best of luck when she is ready to test for
her black belt! Go get ’em, Pat!

According to Joe Motes, many of the con dealers are selling ILLEGAL photos of the B5 folks. Something
like only one dealer actually has the WB rights. At the Cleveland Vulkon, you could tell who the legit
dealer was by the sheer quantity and quality of the B5 photos. Beware vendors selling B5 photos.

The safest — and neatest because it benefits a place for abused kids — is to buy ’em from the folks selling
them for Pat.

Hi every one!
I have been out of town for almost a month with only a few breaks for work. Thank you all for coming to
see me, I have ahd a FANtastic time and the response has been overwhelming. I’ll be in Atlanta April 12th
and 13th. Please drop by. It’s great to see you in person even if it is brief. I get pretty fried but it’s worth it!
We had a riot in St. Pete’s last week end. You are all tooo fun.
Please do not buy dealer photos of me . I ahve plenty, no one else has them, they are shot for me, and all the
profits go to The Penny Lane Home For Abused Children. I will have a mail order situation set up soon as
well as a fan club. Thank you for being interested! God Bless!
Hi Barb, it was so great to meet you! Hope all is well. And yes Phil and Jenny I’ll be in Blackpool, in July.
That should be a blast. To Rob, Katja ans Joshua, hello and thanks for watching!
Yes that was me on Voyager! We laughed a lot shooting that episode. No I was not on Hercules but I would
love to be. Xena is my hero. And night of the Living Dead was where Joe Straczynski first saw me and
wrote Lyta for me. Ro, we shall talk soon . I’m shooting 419 next week. But we’ll have some time.
Love to you all,
Pat
P.S. Have you all Voted in the Poll? I guess there is some kind of contest about merchandizing. Please
checit out!

Welcome back, Pat!

I’m sorry I missed you in St Pete, but if I had missed my brother’s wedding (and he met his sweetie on AOL,
just like I did), I would have had to listen to my mom FOREVER…. even the Vorlons would cringe at that.

I’ll see you again someday…..

<<Yes….. her martial arts training is put to good use. Oh well, one must stay busy in between episodes.>>

Patricia Tallman is trained in martial arts? Does anyone know which one(s)? Striking or grappling? It’s so
great that my favorite B5 actress has something in common with me. I guess she is like Kathy Long(who
doubled for Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns) and Cheryl Wheeler-Dixon(who doubled for Rene Russo
in Lethal Weapon 3).

I wonder if she noticed that detail about Marcus’s double-overhand staff grip.(Read my message in “Grey 17

I sincerely hope JMS will give her some scenes allowing her to showcase her talent! Let’s dispel this
antiquated notion that female martial artists are not “feminine”! (Or any other female athlete for that
matter!)

Dear Mrs. Tallman,
I was just wondering
Do u know if we will eventually see more of a progression in Lyta Alexander (the changes that the Vorlons
made to her, any relationship that Zack may try & have with her, the work that she does in the station now
that the Vorlons have supposedly left)?
& more importantly
do u know if we will ever see the hidden part of her past that Lyta doesn’t want others to know about
(something that Bester made threats to her about on the White Star when they went to Zhadum)
P.S. = I must say that I’m very impressed with your stunt ablities on shows where you only appear briefly
Case in point = on a recent ST: Voyager, when u appeared out of a corner w/out warning & nearly knocked
Kim flat on his face with the staff (I didn’t see any of the other women as determined to capture him as u
were)
Good work

Thanks,

Maybe she was an unwilling dupe — or an idealistic dupe — for the Corps at one time. But if Talia knew her
to be very nice, and as one who could be trusted, it would have had to be at an early age. The Corps must
have tricked her into something — if the whole Bester line isn’t just a ruse to make Lyta feel nervous. All

Hi Stacey,
I support the Penny Lane Home for Abused Children. These kids are so badly sexualy and physically
abused that they can not be placed in foster care. They are too damaged. They have nothing in frills like
Gym class, art, music… the school can’t afford it . I’m helping with a library as well as being a Big Sister to
one of the girls. All my autograph money goes to these kids. So buy photos from me! We really need cash
as well as computers, and mentors for the kids.

I looked in to the idea of forming a “Foundation” for The BabylonBabes to send money to various charities
that the B5 Cast & Crew sponser, but found it difficult if not impossible to set up.(At least in Florida) where
I live. You actually have to organize, file for a 59 tax number, be a non-profit organization, have a board of
directors, etc, just to open a bank account and not be subject to IRS taxes. So we just decided to send in
money individually noting it was in the name of the BabylonBabes. If anyone else knows of a way to do it,
please advise….Keep in mind though, if you send it directly to the charity, it is deductable, and you know
the money is going where you want it to, NEVER send money to an individual that you don’t know and
trust. Stacy

I think the first step should be we all figure out what regions of the country we’re in, for me
(Johnny Reb) it’s Southern California. Then we need to contact Pat Tallman and find out if she would like
us to go through her.
I have many years of experience in Youth Athletics, and have done many fund raisers. There are
so many different types to chose from, we need to pick something which can be done on a large scale basis.
Selling See’s candy door-to-door won’t really work if we’re spread across the country.
In fact, I should have thought of it earlier in the post, but we should probably form a new folder for
the purpose, just so all of the fans, even those who don’t read this folder can get in on it. I would discourage
email, simply for the reason that not enough people will see it.

The ball looks as if it will roll.

One of my best friend’s has been running the Geraint Wyn Davies Fan Club for the past 10 yrs, & in the last
couple of years, the club has been raising $ for Children’s Hospital, w/the $ earmarked for Pediatric Aids.
The 1st yr we had a “Weekend w/Ger” which was kinda like a con for the members, we raised $6611. This
year, at the 2nd “Weekend w/Ger” auction, we raised $18,000! (This $ came from 30 different individuals).
And the total is still growing! I believe the fiscal year ends in June, & the total is OVER $23,000!! Several
of the items at the weekend were costumes, props, scripts, etc. from the show. This was a 2-fold benefit.
The fans got something they really wanted, as well as knowing the $ they spent would go to a worthy cause.

This is just an example of what fans can do when they believe in a cause, & want to do something about it. I
donated a couple of items, one of which has yet to go to auction – it may (tho’ I’m not sure) be in an auction
on the net. I made a needlepoint of the show’s logo (“Forever Knight”), & had an autographed photo of
Geraint, & had it double matted & framed. This is a one-of-a-kind item, therefore a rare & unusual
collectible. This is another possibility.

If Ms. Tallman has a photo or 2 that she’s had made up, & that is not availble elsewhere, I’d be willing to do
another photo/needlepoint to use for an auction piece to benefit Penny Lane. –Pat, what do you think?

Count me in.

And to put others’ minds at ease: Of course you should never send money to somebody you don’t know. I
had in mind the kind of accounts banks open for one-time charitable purposes … and people send their
contributions directly to the bank’s account at the bank’s address. And it would obviously have to be done
through someone everybody trusted.

I’m in Cleveland, Ohio, and would gladly try to gather folks here for this really cool purpose. What next,

Barb,
I agree—the REAL Talia seemed pretty cool and to be honestly attracted to Susan.

Wow you guys, what a season this has been. I can’t believe I’m actually home for a while! Work has been
awesome, and we have the first movie for TNT coming up. I spent this week putting in the garden I couldn’t
do last year because I ended up in Toronto for a month on Long Kiss Goodnight. The weather is fantastic
and I’m full of optimisim. How can I not be when I log on to all your e-mail and I read this folder. Thank
you for your words and wisdom. I’m thrilled to see such interest in Penny Lane and other worthwhile and
needed causes.

I am interested in all your ideas. What I have going at this point is an address for contributions come in (
Made out to Penny Lane). I can walk the money over myself and see that it’s spent well. I will report to you
where the money is going ( i.e. new underware, encyclopedia sets, software, clothes for the kids about to
look for jobs ect.) If this takes off, I can see an arts instructer being hired, or athletics , all funded by our
“foundation” .

My forum for passing along details will be in The Aspire Magazine. My big news this spring is ( I feel so
egotistical even writing this!) The Pat Tallman Fan Club! The club is being organized by Rosie T. , a dear
friend and incredible talent . She is a professional comedy writer , so our magazine will be a very special
one indeed. I’ve been waiting a long time for the right situation never dreaming Rose would be interested.
She will write and edit Aspire. We have interviews with celebrities, with or without a connection to me! Just
interesting aand fun! Fan fiction is invited, as well as art . Prizes for participating , merchandise with
discounts to members, and news news news! I will participated with an article each issue, and pull my
strings with my professional contacts to get you the most interesting and entertaining fan based rag there is!
Of course , Penny Lane benefits , and we will have updates, and news from the kids. I am very excited! We
have a new addition, a scanner! So there will be exclusive photos on the set!

And how to get involved, you may ask? Snail mail to: The Pat Tallman Fan Club
c/o Broads on the Boards
12828 Victory Blvd. #334
N. Hollywood, CA 91606

Tell Rosie you want an aplication, meanwhile giving your age , occupation, and what you want to see in the
magazine. We will design this for you.

I see this as a way to bring together like minded people, have fun and do great things all at the same time!
More soon,
Love,
Pat

O.K. now that I’m done with my commercial! I’ll get to your ?s and comments.
Guillermo, The Vorlon glowing eyes were done with special effects later in post production. I’m sooooo
glad! The contacts are killer!
I was training hard as a kick boxer before I gave birth. (I was boxing on my due date!) But I haven’t been
able to keep that up. I train at home, but I miss my sensei. He has had numerous knee surgeries, and can’t
teach. Now that Julian is older, I will find a new studio to train in. I took up kick boxing because it was a
fighting style popular in films. I don’t intend to hurt anyone! I strive to be precise and very safe. But don’t
piss me off!
Yes, Jeff S., I was on Voyager doing a little staff struggle. We had fun, but I would have liked to do a nice
quarterstaff fight. Unfortunatley there was very little room!
I will talk more about Lyta’s progression and developement in the future. Certainly in Aspire, we will
address these kinds of character growth, and that of other cast mates.
Hi Barb!
Hi Ro!
Thanks for the feedback on the Sci Fi Universe articles. Stephen Smith is an excellent writer and very
knowlegable of Babylon 5.
If you liked “Epiphanies” be sure to catch the ep that airs the week of May 8th!
Thanks Stacey for passing on the Penny Lane info. We are working on a web page.
Thanks for the enthusiasum Johnny Reb! Yes we can do great things for these kids.
Minbob, a needle point picture? Wow! I have a con in England July11th. Can we do this ? Or does it take a
while. I can’t imagine. Give me details via e-mail. Awesome!
Talia was an anagram for Lyta. I didn’t know this untill JMS told me. Very observant!
Take care kids, and keep me posted!
Love,
Pat

Hi Pat,

Would it be all right to post around on the B5 boards a little something about Penny Lane and your
involvement so as to get as many fans as possible helping out? I’d love to do this and help in any other way
that I can.

Hi, Pat.

Is your fan club open to all? Do you have to be a — ahem — “broad”?

Thanks!

This is my first time here, and I was frankly surprised to find out one of my favorite actresses was here as
well. There are probably others, but I think I’ll keep my eyes open here for a bit…

Pat I thouroughly enjoy your work, and everyone else’s work on B5. The blending of great acting, excellent
storytelling, and really cool music, plus the fact of a definite ending to the series makes for a definitely must
see hour of television. Pass my congrats to J. Michael Straczynski for a job well done.

And people are right. It is your eyes that is, by far, your most alluring, and haunting!, quality. Especially in
the episode in which you were ‘possessed’ by the shadows. My friends found a shot of that on the net, and
keep trying to cinvince me to put it up on my computer. Freaks me out to no end, though!

Well, I’ve probably taken up enough of your time, so, good luck with everything!

Egotistical? What ever for? We did ask for a fan club, didn’t we? Please allow us to support you and Penny
Lane. That’s what fans are for!

Hi, folks!

The Babylon 5 Cast & Crew message board only holds 50 folders (topics). We maintain the boards at 50
folders so there’s room for new folders to be created. When a new folder is created, or a folder is filled to
capacity with 450 posts, we archive and delete the folder. We wanted to let you know that we’ve archived
the Lyta Alexander folder to which you all contributed. The archive will be available in the Transcripts and
Logs Library in a few days.

Thanks for your interest in Babylon 5!
